I wanted to like this book, I really did. I enjoy shifter romances, and love menage series. However, one big disappointment is that for only 154 pages, half was taken up by the “extra” read. I anticipated 20-30 pages for the extra content, but the bulk should have been the title I paid to buy. Due to being so short, there wasn’t a lot of development.
We didn’t get a chance to identify with the characters, to learn their motivations. Huge reveals were skipped over and it was up to the reader to fill in the blanks. The sex was glossed over for the most part when it came to Iolite, focusing more on the men. I understand that as a male, this author has more experience from the male point of view, but most romance readers are women. We want to know how Iolite felt, we wanted to be there in the moment with her, and we didn’t get that.
It’s a unique story premise, which is why I’m giving it 3 stars, but we did not get a fleshed out story for either Torn to Pieces or The Claiming, which left me wanting more.
